3 top tips when applying for an apprenticeship
Applying for an apprenticeship can be tricky, especially if you're unsure on exactly what it is you want to do. Here are our top 3 tips for applying for an apprenticeship.

1. Narrow your focus:
With so many companies offering apprenticeships, it can be hard to know exactly what you want to do and where to go. To remedy this, make a list of your interests and potential occupations to which you are drawn. Then, make a list of the companies which you feel would suit your interests. Making lists and writing things down forces the brain to make sense of it all, resulting in a clear and focused idea from which you can work.

2. Craft your application:
Now that you know what you want to apply for, you need to find their apprenticeship scheme online or phone and submit an application. Most companies that offer apprenticeships have a separate section on their website, which should be easy to find. Once you have found the relevant webpage, you will ether need to submit an application with a C.V. or fill out specific and prepared questions on which the employer is focusing. If they ask you to submit a C.V. then visit our ‘Top 5 Tips on how to write a C.V.’ video here: www.streetleague.co.uk/how-to-write-a-cv. If the application requires you to fill out a questionnaire, make sure you express how determined and willing you are to work for the company. Make sure to include company knowledge and be sure to convey your work ethic and your desire to work and grow in this field.

3. Know your audience:
There are thousands of apprenticeships out there and they all require different sets of skills and interests. If you have listened to tip 1 and made a list of your favourite prospects, then this should be easy. Always tailor your application to the field for which you’re applying. Showing that you have pertinent sector knowledge and have done your research will go a long way when it comes to the formal interview stage.

At Street League, we help each participant with their applications and show you exactly how to tailor each one to specific roles.
