Street League is delighted to have attended the 2018 People’s Postcode Lottery annual Charity Gala where it was announced that £93.4 million was awarded to charities and good causes in 2017 – thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Not only were they invited to attend, but a group of Street League's dance-fit participants were invited to open the Gala evening with an energising and inspiring dance performance.

One of the young beneficiaries said:

I am so proud of myself for what I have achieved today. Before this week I had never left Birmingham, and now I have travelled to a new city and performed in front of hundreds of people. It's definitely given me a big confidence boost.

Street League received an incredible £700,000 in 2017 which allowed an overall increase in the number of young people supported from 1,281 (FY15/16) to 1,553 (FY16/17). The investment also allowed the pilot of a new fitness programme which successfully increased the female participation rates for the charity, and has since been rolled out across all regions.

The gala was a celebration of the phenomenal achievements of charities working across Great Britain and internationally that are supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. The lottery also took the opportunity to announce an increase to 32% of each ticket sale going directly to good causes. The news of the funding total and increase was shared at the annual event, on Tuesday 23 January, at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh.

The event was attended by Actor Emma Thompson, broadcaster Dermot Murnaghan, and TV presenter Fiona Philips. Entertainment on the night was provided by Heather Small.

Matt Stevenson-Dodd, Chief Executive shared:

On behalf of the 140 members of the Street League team, and the 1,553 young people who have been supported to transform their lives, we would like to thank every player and team member of the People's Postcode Lottery for your generous support.
